I sat around thinking today how much technology has changed our lives. I came up with a list of some of the names of things we are familiar with today that had I heard them when I was a kid, I would have imagined something far different than what the word stands for today.
Internet: What the basketball does when you make your shot.
Google: The face you make when you don't believe someone's story.
Text: The printed words in a book.
Amazon: The largest river (by volume) in the world
Windows: The glass things in your house.
Telephony: How you pronounce telephone if you're from the South
Cell phone: Something you use while you're in jail.
Mouse: a small brown rodent that eats crumbs from your counter and leaves behind his 'calling cards'
Laptop: The top of your lap.
Server: Someone who waits on you at a really nice restaurant
AIM; What you do when you want to hit your target.
CD; Certificate of Deposit
Upload; How you get the hay in the barn.
Download; How you get the hay out of the barn
IT; That furry guy on the Adams Family
Chat; What you do with your friends on the bus
Bus; where you chat with your friends
Floppy; how a toddler acts when you try to pick them up
Flat Screen; what you put in the windows to keep the bugs out in the summer
Broadband; the headband a woman wears to keep the hair out of her face
Bandwidth; the size of the headband
Gigabytes; What you do when you get the giggles at dinner
Chat brings to mind all the text acronyms. There are perhaps thousands. We've developed an entire language because of our electronic chatter and we still have trouble communicating F2F FCOL!
