Valentine's Day comes at a good time during the year. Winter is more than half over, the days are getting longer. Sure, if you live north like I do, it's probably still really cold, or snowing, or sleeting, or raining, but what better excuse to snuggle up on the couch with your sweetheart and a cup of hot cocoa than some nasty weather?
Perhaps there's too much commercialization surrounding Valentine's Day, but it isn't as bad as Christmas. Besides, you don't have to go all out on Valentine's Day like you do for Christmas, plus it's only one day. I remember when Christmas was one day. Now due to extended family, work gatherings, club gatherings, etc. it gets strung out over an entire month. Just last week, I was talking to a friend who was having Christmas with her husband's family. Come to think of it, perhaps it would be better if we just did away with date on the calendar and declared Christmas as a floating holiday. Just pick a day, or several, during the year that you would like to celebrate and have your holiday then. It would make things a lot easier, plus you would have a good excuse to just leave the tree up all year round!
Valentine's Day is just one day. It's not as big of a deal as some of the other holidays, which is what makes it so special, in my opinion. Just a chance to tell someone how much you love and care about them. A chance to indulge someone with some chocolate, or champagne, or a pink teddy bear.
What's not to love?
You should indulge yourself on Valentine's Day. Treat yourself to a movie, a new book, a new sweater, or a new puppy.
Happy Valentine's Day!
